About Give a Shit
Our Mission
Give a Shit is built on the idea that if you want people to actually change anything, you've got to get them to realllly give a shit. Basically what the Lorax said. To help with this, Give a Shit posts monthly articles including a Reading List, a Call to (small) Action, Legislative Updates, Artist Spolights, and more.
The Climate Crisis is a source of anxiety and despair for many. At Give a Shit, we try to help metabolize that despair into action. We do not have any illusions about the severity of the issue and the frustrations of the limited impact of individual action. However, we believe that giving up is not option. The Lorax wasn't quite right when he said "unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better, it's not." It's going to take several someones, maybe even several someones just caring a regular "lot."
Give a Shit also believes that the scope of environmental degredation and disconnection stretches far beyond just Climate Change. Even if your environmental action does not save the world, it may help save you, or less dramatically, help you fully enjoy the beautiful world that we've been given in the way it deserves and desires to be enjoyed. We also believe that having a better relationship with nature results in us having a better relationship with both ourselves and others.
Content and Ways to Get Involved
Reading List
Each month Give a Shit has a new theme for the posts released. For this given theme, a reading list will be released so you can expand your environmental knowledge and reflection beyond just the typical talking points. Mainly, it's just stuff that we're interested in and think you should be too!
Environmental "Action"
Each month, we post a new environmental challenge or action that is designed to either have a direct environmental benefit, or to help you relfect on some aspect of the environment. These are meant to be small and achievable.
Legislative Updates
Monthly updates on environmental legislative action (primarily local and national) will be provided here each month. So much happens legislatively without receiving press coverage, that it can be easy to lose track! Our goal is to help make that a bit easier.
Supporting Artists
We believe that art is one of the most impactful ways to make people Give a Shit. We welcome all environmentally focused artists and are happy to showcase you in your medium! Please reach out to us at Giveashit@gmail.com and we can coordinate how that best works for you.
Opinion Pieces and Reader Submissions
People Give a Shit about things that they are involved in. We would love to hear from you discuss an issue you have expertise in or just care a lot about. We accept poetry, full articles, and any other way that you would like to contribute to the mission!
